Duncaster
Duncaster was founded centuries ago around the same time its larger neighbor, the capital, Jineeva. Situated on the south shore of Loch Jineeva, Duncaster is a busy port city with ships arriving from and leaving for all corners of Thirith. The city’s population hovers around 50,000, not including the numerous priests, paladins, and nuns, residing within the central fortress of Anhur atop Mount Righteousness. Due to the large quasi-military presence, dwarven forges within Duncaster produce some of the finest armor and weapons to be found in all of Jineeva. Duncaster’s many ships regularly carry the crops grown on the plains southeast of the city, to the capital and points further south.
Leader: Charles Gray, Duke of Duncaster, assumed his position upon the death of his father, Shelby, 3 decades ago, while still a young man. The duke is stout, loyal, and proud of his family’s long history as nobles of the realm. He balances the concerns of the church and the crown deftly in this city which is so heavily influenced by both.
Important Figures:
1. Cantor Alfred Solomons: He is the second highest leader within the Church of Anhur, second only to the Prelate himself. Cantor Solomons is considered a genius military mind which is how he earned his appointment to oversee the paladins of the church.
2. Aberama Silver: This powerful port master of Duncaster is a very rich man who controls the docks and every crate, barrel, and drum that enters or leaves his domain.
3. Thomas Thorne: the Sheriff of Duncaster occupies a mostly ceremonial office. With the powerful influence of the church, and the Duke’s extreme loyalty to the crown, his small force of watchmen are rarely called upon within the city.
4. Lord Edward Roccanti: Lord Roccanti, is the patriarch of Clan Roccanti, a landless ancient noble house that has made claims to the throne throughout the history of Jineeva. With the Varricks having no known heirs, Edward has made known his intention to once and for all claim the throne in the event of the elderly King Varrick’s death.
Important Locations:
1. Port: This bustling port, while overshadowed by Mount Righteous, is still the economic engine of the city.
2. Central Market: Easily the second busiest market in all of Jineeva, the confluence of trading routes provide for all manner of goods to pass through its stalls.
3. The Garrison of the Righteous Blades: Thousands of Anhur’s finest warrior priests and paladins live and train within the stout walls and the underground complex which has stood for hundreds of years. Rumors of great wealth hidden deep within the mountain persist, specifically that this is the location of the Sisters’ of Anhur hidden vault.
4. Kimber’s: Willy Kimber runs this busy tavern, far from the church’s walls, but always within its annoyed gaze. Though the city is not known for wild drunken antics, Willy knows how to keep his doors shut tight from prying eyes.
