Jineeva
Sometimes referred to as Loch Jineeva because of the inland lake whose shores she is built upon, the eponymous capital city of Jineeva is a sprawling city that has existed for centuries, likely before the written records of the kingdom’s history.
The city’s population is near 200,000, a number which includes a lively mix of humans, dwarves, and civilized half-orcs who all swear fealty to their beloved king, Lord George Varrick the Valiant. His grand castle overlooks the city’s arena, convenient for overseeing festivals, games, ceremonies, and occasionally public executions.
Brisk trade occurs at the city’s port, with ships hailing from all over the kingdom and more recently, Grandishian flagged vessels.
Leader: Sir Brock Withers serves in the king’s name as the appointed mayor of the city. He oversees the daily functioning of the city watch, its economic development, and the functions of the ports. His office also collects taxes and reports to the king on all matter domestic.
Important Figures:
1. The Sisters of Anhur: Operating throughout the kingdom but based here in Jineeva, the Sisters direct most of their energy towards helping the poor and sick. Their secondary, and to some even more important function, is to operate an extensive network of banks, charged with issuing paper receipts for money changing. The fee for this service is a flat 5%. The location of their vault is a highly protected secret.
2. Prince Frederick: George’s son, heir to the throne and defender of the realm. Lords Faldon and Saranac answer directly to him, as does the King’s army.
Important Locations:
1. The King’s Palace: The King’s Palace encompasses a large area on the central portion of the bluff above the inner harbor. Its massive walls are visible from nearly any point within the city. A pivoting footbridge connects the palace to the Old Keep, an ancient structure across the harbor that served previous kings of old and is the burial place for important figures of Jineeva’s history, including Sir Sparhawk.
2. Colosseum of Loch Jineeva: This massive arena can hold 50,000 citizens for its largest events. Annual games, festivals, speeches by the King and occasionally public executions are held here.
3. College of Ithacar: The most learned professors of Jineeva teach every subject imaginable to any citizen who can qualify under its strict standards. Tuition is free to all who succeed, paid for by the King’s treasury.
4. The Church of Anhur: This beautiful cathedral is hundreds of years old, founded when Anhur’s influence was at its height in the kingdom. Prelate Craig Dumford has held daily masses here since the return of his god’s power over the realm.
5. Fort Patric: This imposing fortress serves as the largest garrison of troops in all of Jineeva. The forces serving under Prince Frederick are a professional and disciplined army, battle-hardened over many years of conflict in the border regions and monstrous incursions in the interior.
6. Torchkeep, Arcane Library and Mogical Repository: Occupying one of the larger islands of Loch Jineeva, the library is full of all manner of wondrous magical powers. Only the most respected practitioners of the arcane arts are allowed to study here. Research time is costly, but the knowledge contained within is well worth the coin.
a. Spell research: 500gp per spell level b. Laboratory time: 1000gp per spell level (or equivalent)
7. Loch Jineeva Naval Port: The navy’s equivalent of Fort Patric. Sir Marcus Lallemand commands the naval forces of Jineeva, reporting directly to Prince Frederick. His ships patrol the Loch, it’s tributaries, and the ocean’s shoreline.
8. Equestrian Arena: Jineeva’s popular equestrian events are held here. It also serves as a training facility for warhorses and noble steeds. Horses trained here fetch the highest prices in the realm, but they are well worth the cost.
