On the 16th of Surock, in the Dwarven year 5560, one thousand zombies led by the fearsome death knight Aricosis arrived on the doorstep of King Stormwelder's great hall Kir Dungar.
Scouts and outlying settlements had already reported the army's approach, but the king, mad with lust for the great riches held behind the keep's massive gates refused to commit the full force of his legions against the overwhelming odds. Convinced that his gates would hold, the king sent half of his warriors out to their certain deaths.
Wave after wave of zombies, led by the undead knight and backed by mammoths of immense side crashed into the dwarven line, trampling and dragging them down to their deaths. But lo! the dwarves held their ground, fighting tooth and nail even as certain death stared them in the face. Slowly but surely the dwarves cut down the walking dead, even slaying the general Aricosis when all seemed lost.
The king's closest advisors begged and pleaded with him to release the full might of Clan Falkor, but he resisted still, only sending squads for occasional relief. But the dwarves still held! Fighting with a ferocity that only Clan Falkor's finest warriors could tap.
The battle ebbed and flowed, with one side taking command before the other would push further, changing hands many times before finally the dwarves proved the field could be won. Runners returned to the wall begging for reinforcements to relieve the weary fighters, and the king relented!
With a final charge, the dwarves rallied, pushing back against the still burgeoning horde, slaying the undead left and right sending them back to the rest from where they should have remained!
When the last zombie fell, only 100 some-odd warriors remained, knee deep in their fallen brothers' blood and guts.
The keep held. Kir Dungar remains.
