Caestor
Caestor is a beautiful, laid-back small city known for its clear blue waters, though its rocky shoreline, rare in Grandish, precludes the type of beaches the rest of the island nation is known for. Perched atop the cliffs and hills of this rare feature, Ceastor affords amazing views of the sea to the north of the island.
Though much smaller in size and population compared to other cities of Grandish, her commodity is what keeps her relevant: oysters. Caestor’s fishermen do not travel far to procure this bounty as the many nooks and crannies of her own harbor abound with millions of the shellfish, along with their pearls so prized among those who can afford them. It is said that Weton wields the power, but Caestor is the gem of Grandish.
Leader: Amista Nuihau is the only female to control a city’s government in all of Grandish. She is relatively young, beautiful, brilliant beyond all belief, and absolutely adored by her citizens.
Important Figures:
1. Napo Nuihau: Amista’s husband and leader of the city watch. Napo is a proud and accomplished warrior known for his fearsome haka chant. He is a kind man, benevolent man and an adoring husband who will do anything for his wife.
2. Ofania Rosi: Ofania serves as the bard of Caestor, sort of the city’s ambassador and greatest booster. She travels far and wide adorned in pearls to ensure the highest prices for her city’s commodity. Her singing voice knocks men to the ground and puts even the most irritated babe into a sound sleep.
3. Wai: This mysterious man goes by one name. He served many years on the oyster skiffs before heading into the hills after a vision changed his entire demeanor. Though not feared, he is shunned as the people of Caestor prefer to enjoy life to the fullest without his dire predictions.
Important Locations:
1. Fountain of the Pearl and Marketplace: This beautiful fountain stands as a testament to the pearls of Caestor. It is fittingly surrounded by a market overflowing with the coveted gems.
2. Temple of Habbakuk: Caestor’s temple is known as a center of education for acolytes of the order. Arch Prelate Famalaua Kei’kolakomami runs the program of instruction.
3. Shipyard: Though it pales in comparison to Weton’s, some of the bounty of Oak Tree Island comes here to be turned into strong, seaworthy fishing vessels.
4. Miter’s Heights: This hill is the highest point in all of coastal Grandish, from end to end and north and south shore. Locally it serves as a “lover’s hideaway” and camping ground due to the beautiful view it affords.
5. Grace of Habbakuk University: A parochial college of higher learning where subjects covering all disciplines are taught to the highest standards.
6. Lighthouse: Caestor’s lighthouse has long been unmanned as it is rarely necessary for the type of fishing that dominates the city’s waters. Begrudgingly, local watchmen are sent to burn the beacon when ships of the fleet are expected in port.
7. The Lazy Way: This dark, slow-moving river winds out the nearby jungle to pour into the sea through Caestor’s harbor. Along its banks an industry of brewing, tanning, and butchering thrives due to easy access to dump foul wastes. As such, the waters smell rancid most of the year until monsoons and other large storms of the end of summer wash out what has built up since the prior season.
