Scevous
Years ago, the leaders of the fledgling city of Brith established a fort at the site of present date Scevous to protect boats moving along the Rivous River to and from Mountainhome. The spot was chosen due to the prominent island in the middle of the river, easily defendable due to its elevation. As time passed, more and more people migrated to the area to farm and lumber, and for its easy access to Long Lake, a popular fishing location. Scevous prides itself on standing out for no particular reason. She sends her men to Mountainhome as scheduled but otherwise mostly keeps to herself.
Leader: Mayor Antony Dimegs
Mayor Dimegs is relatively new to the position only having recently garnered the support necessary to elevate from his former position as town crier. Scevous elects its uppermost leaders from the lower ranks of public officials, and town crier has historically been a steppingstone to the mayoralty. Mayor Dimegs frequently rails against the larger government of New America. He is very suspicious of the influence Landtor’s visitors wield.
Important Figures:
1. Commander Walthus Gramin: Commander Gramin maintains his garrison with an iron fist. Scevous’ men are considered some of the best fighters in the land because of his expert training regimen. Walthus is a serious man who years for adventure but knows that his experience is needed here at home.
Important Locations:
1. The Old Fort: Though still maintained, the original fort has come to be known by this moniker. Its walls are of stout pine. The bridge on the north side of the river can be raised in times of need, while the south-side turns to clear the wider and deeper shipping lane.
2. Townhall and Mayor’s residence: This building serves as the seat of government for the town.
3. Market: Scevous’ market can be busier than one would expect in such an out of the way place.
4. Grimtooth’s Taphouse and Inn: Grimtooth’s is a fine establishment with a reputation for excellent service. Though not the only such place in Scevous, it is the only one worth noting.
5. Franny the Scryer: called a witch by many but respected by others, Franny is a mysterious woman whose predications frequently come true. Mayor Dimegs considers her a trusted advisor.
6. Paki’s Storehouse: Paki Bartlemon carries the best adventuring equipment gathered from suppliers all over New America. He can outfit any expedition, large or small.
