Orfordness
At the far southern border of Jineeva, Orfordness Keep has stood steadfast for centuries against waves of invading creatures from beyond its walls. For most of its history, the namesake Orfordness family held the lordship over the keep, but 5 years ago, the last of their line perished, leading to the reign of Sir Palric of Saranac. Sir Palric, being a steadfast servant of the Orfordness family for years, opted to honor them by retaining the name. The stout double walls of Ordfordness extend from the mountains to the sea to protect Jineeva from invasions. Only recently have the attacks slowed, leading Sir Palric to become interested in what remains of the fabled ancient civilization known to have existed south of Jineeva prior to the cataclysm.
Leader: Sir Palric Saranac, Lord Orfordness, Protector of the Southern Border, Hero of Jineeva is the current lord of the keep. Sir Palric was awarded his lordship by King Varrick in the year 16 when the last of the Orfordness line, Lord Paul Ordfordness, died valiantly while fighting off invading giants. Lord Paul left no legal heir to succeed him. Sir Palric was serving as General of the Southern Army under Lord Paul when he was slain.
Important Figures:
1. Joralomon: The most powerful of all human wizards in Jineeva, Joralomon is an elderly man whose adventuring days are long behind him. He has served the Lords of Orfordness for over 4 decades and is likely the last person in the keep who has ventured beyond the wall.
2. Sidrael Musk: Sidrael is a mysterious woman who only recently moved into the keep, an event which caused much stir amongst long-time residents and nobility throughout the south of Jineeva. Whatever her connection is to Sir Palric, it must be a strong one.
3. Holoran of Anhur: The priest of Orfordness is one of the highest ranked amongst Anhur’s followers in the municipality. Holoran has fought from the front of every battle he has been present for, honorable service which has apparently been rewarded with increase divine powers in this age of awakening for the god.
4. General Dekta: When Sir Palric ascended to his lordship, he promoted Dekta, his most trusted advisor, to directly command the Southern Army of Jineeva, with King Varrick’s blessing of course.
5. Rick Bagadon: Mr. Bagadon has run his finely appointed Inn through thick and thin for decades. He boasts that not once has the ale ceased to pour, even in the midst of the darkest sieges.
Important Locations:
1. Orfordness Keep: The main keep sits high above the small town and its formidable double wall. When necessary, catapults stationed at the keep rain hellish fire down upon any creatures threatening the wall.
2. Joralomon’s Tower: The formidable wooden door at the top of his formidable staircase serves well to keep out unwelcome visitors. On warm sunny days, the old mage likes to sit at the bottom of the staircase staring towards the walls he yearns to travel beyond just once more.
3. The Great Walls: Originally laid down hundreds of years ago, the Great Walls of Orfordness extend to the sea, keeping all manner of horrors from overrunning Jineeva since they first rose soon after the cataclysm.
4. Rotting Head Inn: Mr. Bagadon’s inn is aptly named, as he decorates the peak of his roof with the most recent rotting head obtained from clashes at the wall. Though frowned upon further north, his preferred adornment is wildly popular in Ordfordness.
5. Wonder Market: Though its name implies some level of oddness, the market of Orfordness is quite normal. Fresh food products, textiles, and all manner of other traded goods can be found here depending on the time of the season.
6. Moggle’s Forge: Moggle is a stout dwarven fighter whose forge turns out the finest weapons and armor in all of south Jineeva. His products have protected the Army of the South for generations. He is nearing retirement age and has taken on new apprentices in the last few years.
