Mountainhome
Mountainhome began its life accidently when a small group of explorers from Scevous and Toth were forced to winter in a natural cave after staying in the area too late into the year. While holed up, they found a rich silver vein, which when reported upon their return immediately began a silver rush from all of the various settlements. Recognizing the importance of this resource, an agreement was struck to maintain a protective force at the remote outpost, and also to ensure equitable oversight between the (then) still competing city states. Since the founding of New America and the creation of the central bank located in Coreth, most of the prior agreement has been scrapped. Only the shared defense of the now privately-run mines remains. Each city provides a rotating garrison of men to man the keep. This defense has been vital numerous times within, and outside of the mines as goblins, orcs, and various subterranean creatures regularly threaten the flow of silver from Mountainhome to the general economy.
Leader: Currently, there is no true leader for the entire settlement. Listed below are the important figures presently working within Mountainhome.
Important Figures:
1. Morel Operhev: Morel is the head of the Brave Silver Mining company, based out of Coreth, one of the competing private entities operating at Mountainhome. His company controls two major mines on the west side of the keep. He is an irascible, driven man who is known for being impossible to get along with.
2. Rickard Morre: Rickard is the hard of the Breakrock company and originally from Brith. He stands in stark contrast to his counterpart. For this reason, he is more likely to deal with diplomats from the various settlements.
3. Henry Levift: Henry is the tough leader of the loading dock crew. He is not ashamed to use physical force to keep the men working hard. Henry is from Coreth but shows no favoritism in his scheduling of shipments.
4. Michael Procop: Micheal is an experienced commander who has been stationed in various roles at Mountainhome since arriving as a visitor from Augusta, Maine in the year 8. His prior experience as a state national guardsman and dock worker are the basis for his current appointment, which he has held for 6 years. Michael commands the rotating force of 50-100 men defending Mountainhome.
Important Locations:
1. Keep: The keep at Mountainhome is large enough to house the entire population of the town should the need arise during an attack. When the dwarves arrived, they immediately began working to fortify it ever stronger, and may soon move into a new wing being built.
2. Brave Silver Mining Headquarters: Visitors are not welcome at the headquarters of the larger of the two mining companies working out of Mountainhome. Here, and in the surrounding buildings, approximately 50 men and their families reside, as well as their equipment, repair shops, and storage.
3. Breakrock Company Headquarters: The Breakrock company controls less real estate, but the company’ land produces more precious metals than the Brave Silver mines.
4. Ballywog’s: No one knows where the name for this rowdy tavern came from, but it seems to have stuck. Viktor Swile, a visitor from Florida opened his place after quickly realizing that mining did not suit him. He, his family, and his employees can barely keep up with the clientele.
5. Loading Docks: The loading docks of Mountainhome include to massive crane structures to lower the ore down the steep cliffs surrounding the town. On the eastern edge, the falls produce a constant mist that covers everything.
