Faldon’s Keep
Faldon’s Keep is a stronghold located on the far northern border of the Municipality of Jineeva. The first lord of the Faldon Clan, Sparkhawk the Defender, was appointed Protector of the North 700 years ago. His clan has laid claim to this fiefdom, and provided for Jineeva’s protection from the hordes of creatures that inhabit the lands north of the keep’s walls, ever since. The keep is situated to block Vermis Pass where it exits the mountains, providing one of the few clear routes into and out of the treacherous peaks. Throughout its existence, the walls of the keep have held strong against numerous attacks by goblins, orcs, giants and even the occasional dragon. Few men venture far north of the wall, and of those who do, even fewer return. Only myths and legends speak of what lies beyond. The keep maintains a garrison of 200 well-equipped men-at-arms, hailing from all of the municipality. It is also known for its superb stable which produces the finest trained war horses. Its archers are renown for their accuracy and speed, owing to the regular practice they enjoy against live targets outside the walls.
Leader: Sir Timothy Faldon, son of King Derek Faldon I, son of Thane II, Protector of the North, is the current lord of Faldon’s Keep. He is the 19th member of his house to hold the title. Though relatively untested, and young at only 24, Sir Timothy is well-respected as the eldest son of the King.
Important Figures:
1. Bargle VeAleena, Priest of Anhur: Bargle has toiled for many years as a low-level acolyte of Anhur, the elder god of war. Until recently, his powers were very limited, but for unknown reasons, he has of late gained much divine strength as his connection to his patron has grown. Bargle is a trusted confident of Sir Derek.
2. Ilorsorin Lorasa: Ilorsorin’s name is known far and wide throughout Jineeva for her wealth of arcane knowledge. She is an elder elf, having served as her people’s diplomat to the court of Jineeva prior to the cataclysm. Even 500 years removed from that event, she still yearns for home and hopes to live long enough to see it once more.
3. Gormard: Gormard the dwarf serves as Lord Faldon’s armorer and has done so faithfully for almost 100 years. His weapons and armor are some of the finest in the land. His work is mostly to equip the keep’s forces, but rarely, Sir Derek allows his products to be sold on the open market.
4. Valace Namarin: Valace owns the only public tavern within the keep and controls the attached marketplace. He is a shifty person, but Sir Derek seems to trust him and the long history between his and the Namarin clans.
5. Borik Testorious: Borik is the stablemaster of the keep. He and his staff train the strongest warhorses bred from northern stock. He is hard working, gruff, and a fine warrior when needed.
Important Locations:
1. The Keep: Faldon’s Keep looms large over the land. It is taller than the outside walls which were added approximately 200 years after the keep was first constructed. It has stood continuously for over 500 years as the bulwark of northern defenses for the municipality. Though parts of the greater stronghold have been over run, the Faldon Clan proudly maintains that the keep itself has never been breached.
2. The Forge: Here is where Gormard maintains his shop to produce and repair the arms and armor of the keep’s forces. He can always be found within unless summoned to the keep by Sir Derek.
3. Quartermaster: This large building houses the office and stores of the keep’s quartermaster, Kram Naejlaf. Except when under the lord’s decree, it is open to the public for commerce.
4. Guildhall: This building serves as the meeting place, offices and housing for the small adventuring guild and the sage’s guild. Two sages currently reside within: Ffarfel, and elderly elf, and Dexter Page, a middle-aged human who has trained under Ffarfel for years. The adventurer’s guild has declined of late. Barachan Rayette, a retired fighter human fighter, seems to be the only member right now.
5. The Orc’s Nest: the keeps tavern is the second largest building within the walls. It boasts almost 100 beds on the upper floor, though not all of them are known for comfort. Downstairs, a bustling open floorplan ensures rowdy, raucous fun through all hours of the night. Between the men of the keep’s forces and farmers from the surrounding area, there is never a shortage of mouths looking to be filled with ale. Valace controls a small marketplace connected to the building where many wares can be found being sold by traveling merchants.
6. Temple of Anhur: The keep’s church is designed in the manner of all temples of Anhur: a short, squat tower with no windows, with arrow slits surrounding the upper floors. From within Bargle oversees 3 acolytes who’ve recently arrived as word of his increased powers has spread.
