New America
New America is a human federation located in the north-central region of Thirith’s largest continent. It is loosely bounded by the Abbolith Mountains to the east, the forests bordering The Unknown to the south, and the harsh, cold waters of the Sea of Fate to the north. Prior to the peace achieved in the common year 6, New America consisted of multiple city states exerting their influence over small villages, while constantly fighting each other and the orcs (among other threats), that plague the peninsula. After the Second Battle of Landtor, in which the visitors’ settlement managed to hold off Coreth’s superior forces, a settlement was reached to end the fighting between the human cities. New America was formed, a common calendar and monetary system was agreed upon, and the various natural bounties of the region have been shared to mutual benefit ever since. Three years after peace was achieved, it was put to its greatest test with a massive orc invasion from the Abbolith Mountains. The cities’ forces fought side by side for the first time, thoroughly crushing the orc army. Since that battle, orc incursions have become less frequent, and much easier to handle.
Leadership: A system of diplomacy between the city states currently exists which negates the need for single figurehead ruler. The cities’ representatives constantly travel the peninsula to negotiate terms of trade, mutual defense, and the shared responsibility of keeping Mountain Home’s mines operating and protected.
Important Figures:
1. Captain General, the Ever Munificent, his Primacy, Earl Bohan the Glorious, Murderer of Coreth: (Shortened: The Captain General) The Earl of Coreth comes from a long line of succession which has ruled the city since its establishment soon after the cataclysm.
2. Cytryn of Toth: Cytryn the ranger, hailing from Toth, continues her quest to uncover the remaining Chalices of Thirith and to restore the gods to their former place of glory.
3. The First Heroes of Landtor: Primarily visitors from Earth, the First Heroes are an adventuring band from Landtor who have been instrumental in discovery the secrets of the visitors’ presence on the planet and unlocking the mysteries of magic which once flourish throughout the land.
Demographics:
The dominant intelligent race in New America is humans. Native Thirithians make up the bulk of the population. They possess pale to light brown skin, blue eyes, and most have blond to light brown hair. The visitors from Earth, most residing in Landtor, are made up of the many varieties hailing from the planet earth.
Economy:
The economic backbone of New America is remains strong and varied. Fishing and shipbuilding flourishes in Brith. Farming is Landtor’s primary engine. Coreth is known for its fine lumber. Toth and Scevous primarily lumber and farm, but also have strong ties to the mining in nearby Mountain Home.
Silver is the coin of New America as only recently has gold been mined with the help of the dwarves of Clan Rumblefish.
Religion:
New America is a mostly atheist society, through in the common year 21, through the efforts of Cytryn of Toth and The First Heroes of Landtor, contact with the gods of old has slowly returned. Sean Quinn, priest of the God of War Anjur, continues to spread his word wherever welcome ears are present.
Flora and Fauna:
New America has a thriving array of plant and animal life, along with semi-intelligent and intelligent creatures typically considered monsters by the humans of the federation. It is not unheard of to encounter hill giants, orcs, ettins, and gnolls while traveling off the beaten path or even on the seldom patrolled roads between the cities and villages. Strange creatures inhabit the waters of the rivers, lakes, and certainly the sea surrounding the peninsula. The forests of New America are rich with strong, tall trees of all species, especially stout pines and sturdy oaks suited for building strong ships and homes that can weather the harshest northern winters. The plains are wind-whipped and full of dangerous creatures, but also provide fertile ground for the bountiful crops grown by villages spread out mostly along the roads and rivers. Corn, wheat, tomatoes, various fruits, and of course livestock, thrive off of the grasses and dark earth.
