As revealed by the ranger Cytryn to The First Heroes, there exists an ancient myth that speaks of 7 chalices mysteriously scattered throughout the lands, hidden after the cataclysm by the gods of old, for reasons that remain unknown. Cytryn's quest is to find these chalices, to see each in the hands of the one who shall unlock its individual secrets, and together find the purpose this mystery holds.
Below are the known chalices and a brief story behind each:
The Eucharistic Chalice: This chalice was first carried by Gugen, the dwarven prophet who crossed the Abbolith Mountains in the year 20. Bardhbolvag, "White Curse", a mysterious half-orc traveling out of Landtor with The First Heroes slayed Gugen in battle, taking possession of the chalice, whereupon he unlocked its secrets. This powerful cup purifies any liquid it carries, and imparts friendship upon any antagonist who drinks from it. Bardhbolvag fell in battle on the next new moon, at which time the chalice fell into the possession of his companion, Sean Quinn, visitor from Earth and acolyte of Anhur.
The Chalice of Liquid Food: This chalice was recovered from a treasure horde in a sealed cavern east of Coreth, protected by a Phantom Stalker. The ranger Cytryn, with the aid of The First Heroes, killed the Phantom Stalker in a fierce battle to return this chalice to the light of the world. It produces flavorless, but nutritious sustenance for any who sip from it.
The Chalice of Inner Sight: Solid gold with inlaid gems and silver accents, this exquisite chalice was found by young girls swimming in the lake of Brith Village in the year 21. It quickly changed hands from Elizabeth Maher to Ann Putney, causing a crisis when Ann's mind could not commune with the chalice. The heroes of Landtor, along with Cytryn of Toth, intervened to return the chalice to its rightful bearer, the Maher girl. When held by a true neutral being, this chalice reveals the inner soul and past deeds of all within a 20' radius.
The Chalice of Dragon's Breath: Silver, with multi-colored gems inlayed in its base. The Chalice of Dragon's Breath is the mark of Dlixica's Champion, the physical arm of the Goddess of Light upon the physical world of Thirith. Once per day, the owner may take a sip, imbuing in him the power to use a breath weapon as one of the many dragons. The chalice is currently held by Thraxel of Rumblefish, Champion of Dlixica, member of the First Heroes.
